Charles Tam
Welcome!
I’m a concert pianist, composer, piano teacher, and accompanist, offering piano lessons to children and adults in South West London.
About
I am currently a Fellow in Piano Performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (GSMD), where I also earned my Artist Diploma. Over the years, I’ve been honoured with numerous national and international accolades, and continue to perform regularly at leading venues and festivals, including Wigmore Hall, the Barbican, and beyond.
My musical journey has been shaped by the privilege of working with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Aquiles Delle-Vigne, Peter Donohoe, Arie Vardi, Stephen Hough, Imogen Cooper, Paul Lewis and Dang Thai Son.
Alongside performance, I am deeply committed to music education, composition, and collaboration. I offer tailored piano lessons to students of all ages and levels, compose original works for soloists, ensembles, and media, and provide sensitive, reliable accompaniment for rehearsals, performances, and exams. Whether you’re learning, creating, or performing—I look forward to supporting your musical goals.
teaching
For Students
I teach classical and contemporary piano, tailored to your level and interests. Lessons cover technique, interpretation, and musicianship, with support for graded exams (e.g. ABRSM). I specialise in working with advanced students—those preparing for performance diplomas or conservatoire auditions—guiding you to refine your artistry and perform with clarity, confidence, and personal expression.
If you’re curious, motivated, and ready to deepen your understanding of music, I’d be glad to work with you.
For Parents
I welcome young learners and provide a structured, encouraging environment where they can build musical skills and confidence over time. I focus on healthy technique, musical expression, and discipline in a positive, age-appropriate way.
Progress is regularly reviewed, and I work with parents to help students stay motivated and engaged.
selected performances
It was a joy to perform at Wigmore Hall as part of the Musicians’ Company Concert supported by the Concordia Foundation. I presented works by Messiaen and Liszt—two composers whose emotional and spiritual depth I find especially meaningful. Playing selections from Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus and Liszt’s Fantasia quasi Sonata gave me the chance to explore both intensity and introspection, and to connect deeply with the audience in such an iconic venue.
